"The Cock serves up a massive plate of debate"

(1.6428571428571428571428571)

Located right across from Petersham train station, The White Cockatoo is easy to find and conveniently located if you're a train traveler. The fairly large building on the corner is a little hard to miss and so are their schnitzels....

The Bat & Ball, Redfern

495 Cleveland Street, Redfern
Reviewers present: Southy, Macca, Simone & Blogs
Time of review: 6pm feed with batty bingo/ Sydney fc first home game 2012/13

"A pub on the mend. 4 runs!"

The Bat & Ball Hotel, standing on the corner of Cleveland and South Dowling streets, overlooks Moore Park and attracts all those on their way to and from the sport nearby. Like many pubs in and around Sydney, it has it's fair share of history and stories to tell. Built in 1929 and then known as the Duke of Cleveland, the B&B has gone through a few changes over the years. Whether before a game or after, win or lose, or for a drink, feed, or catch up with mates, The Bat is welcoming like an extension of your own loungeroom. Southy, local of the area and frequent pub-adventurer, tells us a bit about his experiences, good, bad and Pie.....

A gem hidden in the back streets of Newtown

It's my favourite, I'll tell you now.  This pub is located a convenient 30 seconds' walk from our front door - in fact I walk past it almost every day - hidden in the back streets of Newtown.

"Slip into some cheap beer then slip out"

It was a brief visit to this Merival-owned venue on this occasion but it was enough to draw some conclusions and reflect on another time we had slipped in to the Slip Inn. Read on for more....

Kelly's On King, Newtown

285 King Street, Newtown

"Why not? But... Why?"

Courthouse Hotel, Newtown

202 Australia Street, Newtown
Reviewers present: Macca, Simone, JB
Time of review: Afternoon AFL and beers

Courthouse Hotel - quiet on the outside, happening on the in

"Court is now in session"

The Courthouse Hotel, or "Courty" as it is more commonly known, is located just up the road from the Newtown Courthouse - funny that. There's no bullshit there. Ok, sometimes there is some bullshit out the back when all the wannabe-cool-kids blow in from 'outta (new)town', but in general what we have here is a relaxing place to enjoy your beer, meet friends, have a laugh, and enjoy a bit of sport on one of the TVs if that's what you're into - AFL preferred pub by the way. And that, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, was my opening statement.

Concourse Bar, Sydney

Wynyard Station, Sydney
Reviewers present: Burger Bot, Joe Blogs, Incredible Hulk
Time of day: Lunch

(that's "2 limp rubber chickens"in the old system)

It's the second time we've been to this bar, sleazily tucked away in the corner of Wynyard station, and we left (after only one drink) again wondering why we came.

Queen Victoria Hotel, Enmore

167 Enmore Road, Enmore
Reviewers present: BurgerBot, Joe Blogs
Time of day: The dinner shift

"Something something for everyone!"

(that's "3.5 rubber chickens" in the old system)

One could quite easily walk right by this Enmore Road establishment, without giving it much of a look-in except if you were looking for a bottle shop or a gambling den. The front of the QVH is dominated by these two things, hiding the potential that lies within.
